Why does Ben Potts Wines utilise this fruit?
Teangi Farm Vineyards soils are exceptional for growing shiraz. The soils
are tight and restrict excess vigour whilst still giving up enough
moisture and nutrients to get balanced vines.
The vineyard is run extremely lean with minimal water applied only in the driest conditions. The site is showing potential as one of the best shiraz vineyards in the Langhorne Creek region, hence it has been given the nickname of Gods Country!
Shiraz from this site also goes to John Glaetzer for Margaretes Shiarz.
Wines from Teangi Farm Vineyard typically exhibit primary fruit characters such as ribena, plum and black currant. They also have good very palate weight and richness with firmer tannins while still retaining good length and are often quite complete wines prior to blending.
Shiraz cuttings have recently been selected from Hoffmann’s Dimchurch Vineyards older vines and planted out on some of the tightest clays on Teangi Farm Vineyard. These new vines have not produced a crop as yet however Ben is confident the fruit from this new planting will be something special.
